Mission

To culture an appreciation for the past and to commemorate the founding of Independence and 200 years of history through community celebrations and historical education, and to develop legacy projects to benefit future generations.

Turning the Big 2-0-0

The City of Independence will celebrate its bicentennial birthday next year, 1814-2014!  In honor of this monumental occasion, a Bicentennial committee and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization "The Friends of Independence" has been established and is planning many events and activities themed around the big 2-0-0!

That being said, we have a lot of work to do, and are hoping for participation from all areas of our community - residents, organizations, churches, schools, and businesses.

Sponsorship

The Bicentennial Committee has created a number of ways you and/or your business may contribute.  Please take a few moments to review the sponsorship page which has been designed to give you the opportunity to receive some notoriety for your business at various contribution levels.  All donations are tax deductible.
