Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS)

The VIPS Program is a national program under the Citizens Corps.

Our Independence VIPS Chapter began in 2004. We have a group of dedicated volunteers who provide assistance to our police officers when called upon.

In the past, we have provided assistance for the City's annual fireworks display, Home Days, foot races and other community events, by parking cars, directing traffic, or other tasks as needed.  We have also been invited to participate (as "Elves") in the annual "Shop with a COP" program.  We educate ourselves in safety matters in order to support our Safety Forces.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, at the 7:00 pm in the Willow Room of the Independence Civic Center.  Residents of Independence are welcome to attend and join this exceptional group of volunteers.
