Elmwood Pond is approximately 1.5 acres with a depth up to 6 feet deep. Every spring, the pond is stocked with a variety of fish by the City of Independence for its annual Kiwanis fishing derby. The pond is open to the public for fishing with the exception of the week prior to the fishing derby (signs will be posted).
In the wintertime, signs are posted when the pond is safe for ice skating and ice hockey. Park benches are located around the pond for a relaxing, tranquil view of the wildlife.
Call the Recreation Department for skating information.
