Food Assistance Programs

photoDue to personal circumstances, residents may, at times, find themselves in need of assistance with food.  There are resources available to assist during such a crisis.

In an emergency, contact Community Services at (216) 524-7373.  Food is provided from our City pantry when available, otherwise the resident will be referred to one of the local pantries.

South Hills Lend-A-Hand

For more ongoing assistance, a resident may be referred to the South Hills Lend-A-Hand program.  This is a volunteer organization that serves the cities of Broadview Heights, Independence and Seven Hills.  Its main goal is to lend a hand to those who are in need and willing to help themselves improve their situation.  To be eligible, a resident must meet income guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Once a resident is deemed eligible, they will be responsible for picking up the food on a monthly basis at the Broadview Heights distribution center for Lend-A-Hand. Please contact Community Services for more information, or call the Lend-A-Hand voice mail system at 440-526-0514.

Ohio Direction Card

Residents may qualify for financial assistance with food through a county program in which they will be provided the Ohio Direction Card with which to make their food purchases.  To qualify, assets and income must be limited.
