This service is offered in accordance with Codified Ordinance 959.01. Snow removal consists of a standard size snow plow making two passes on the resident's primary driveway only, for the purpose of emergency ingress and egress. This service is activated when snow accumulation is 4 inches or more, as determined by the City Service Director. Once the plow drivers are notified, they have 16 hours within which to complete their scheduled routes. The Snow Removal service is unable to accommodate immediate, on demand, response to homeowner requests for snow removal.
- Homeowner must be 60 years of age or older.
- Living alone or with individuals under age 60 who are incapable of snow removal due to a physical or mental impairment.
- Disabled, this can be a notice of Social Security or Veterans Administration Disability (statement provided only once) or a statement from a physician (statement provided annually).
- Absent from the household due to active military duty not less than 15 consecutive days during the snow season. Requires verification of active military service.
Registration is available starting Tuesday, September 6th either at the Community Services Department at the Community/Civic Center or through the mail. Allow 3 business days to be added to Snow Removal list. Checks should be made payable to the City of Independence
. A completed application is required on an annual basis.
