Trees

The City of Independence has been a member of Tree City USA since 2002. The City has just accepted our 16th year award for meeting all the requirements and standards of the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The Independence Service Department crew plants, prunes, replaces and maintains all the trees located on City properties. These trees may be located on park property, medians, cul-de-sacs, tree lawns and all City right of ways. The City occupies a variety of standard tree species including, Ash, Centurion Crabs, Cleveland Select Pears, Ginkgo, Oak, Maple, Elm, Locust, and Willow.

By planting new trees and maintaining existing trees:

  • Help with the conservation of soil and water
  • Reduce heating and cooling costs by moderating temperatures
  • Increase the value of homes by adding beauty, grace, comfort and a practical blessing
