The City of Independence is constantly reinventing itself to accomodate the needs of Residents and Businesses and to continue growing economically, socially, and culturally.
Please review some of the larger projects we're currently working on to achieve the goals of the Residential and Business Community.
Current Projects:
- Downtown Master Plan
- The Downtown Master Plan Task Force consists of representatives selected from the City’s business sector, the Historical Society, the Cultural Arts Council, and City Staff members. The mission of this task force is to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the downtown area of the City of Independence.

- Rockside Road Project
- The Rockside Road Project was an undertaking that began in 2005 to widen the main corridor through our business district at Route 77. The project began with the widening of the section East of Rockside Rd. and has now progressed to the central section the entire project end date is projected as Fall 2007.

- DOT I-77 Widening/Noise Project
- This project consists of the addition of one lane in each direction on I-77 from just south of State Route 82 to just north of the Rockside Road interchange.
