Remembering Marilyn Senick

Veterans Day 158
With deep sadness, I write to inform you that Community Services Director Marilyn Senick passed away peacefully this morning after a short illness.

Marilyn began working for the City of Independence in 1996.  She was dedicated and devoted to our community.  Despite the coronavirus pandemic and some recent health issues that had her working from home, she always reminded me that she planned to return to the Civic Center.  She loved her job, her colleagues and staff, and this community.

Marilyn was intensely private and never liked attention or being in the spotlight.  It is ironic because she devoted her life to helping others. She earned her undergraduate degree in communications and social work. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work with a certificate in gerontology.

Because of Marilyn's leadership, the Community Services Department never wavered from providing the high-level services residents have come to expect.

Please keep Marilyn’s family in your prayers.
