Applicants are required to provide proof of a current OPOTA Peace Officer certificate and the notarized application showing at least three years of full-time police officer employment within the past two years.

2022 OPOTC Physical Fitness Assessment Form
You must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Ohio driver's license, and pass a physical fitness test. All applicants will be required to pass a department-issued physical fitness test based on the state standards (15th percentile). The physical fitness test will be given prior to any interviews. For selected candidates, a panel interview will be performed;, there will not be a written exam. All candidates should be able to pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, and medical examination prior to their appointment.
Applications and all required materials must be returned in person between 8 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday, September 6 - October 7, 2022, to the City of Independence Police Department. The order of applicant submissions will be noted in case of ties.
Applications turned in after 4 PM on October 7, 2022, will not be accepted.
