Civil Service

The City Civil Service Commission conducts competitive Civil Service exams for full time police and firefighter/paramedic positions. It meets on the first Thursday of each month at 8:15 am at the City Hall Caucus Room, 6800 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio. 

Changes to meeting date and/or time will be noted on the Civil Service Calendar.

Application for Lateral Transfers for Police Department

Applications and requirements can be downloaded from the City of Independence, Ohio website at only.  (Government Tab then Civil Service Tab) beginning Monday September 21, 2020.

Applicants are required to provide proof a current OPOTA Peace Officer certificate as well as the attached notarized document showing three years of experience in a position that required a civil service test.
You must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Ohio driver’s license and pass a physical agility test.
Applications along with the required materials must be returned in person between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; September 21, through October 5, 2020 to The City of Independence Police Department.

Applications turned in after 4 p.m. on October 5, 2020 will not be accepted
